ABOUT THESE SKINS

All the skins here have been made using the PicSkinner software.

With PicSkinner you can turn any BMP GIF or JPG image into a Windows Media Player skin.

These examples will give you some ideas for the sort of skins you could be making.

Remember you won't need to know how the Windows Media Player works, you won't need to write any XML, and you won't need to code any JScript!

The background graphics used for these samples look best on 1280x1024 screens, but should be OK on smaller displays.

The skins will work with Windows Media Player versions 7, 8 9, & 10.

SAMPLE SKINS
This art deco poster demonstrates the use of 'hidden buttons'. These appear when the mouse cursor is over them, and can also be shown and hidden using the 'Show All' button in the top left corner.

Like all the skins here (in fact, like all skins made with PicSkinner), the background picture can be hidden and revealed using the 'Quick Hide' buttons in the bottom corners.

The skin is shown here full size with all the buttons visible. (Yes, the 'Play' button does disappear!)

The red Fender Stratocaster (shown here one quarter size) is an example of a media player skin with a transparent background. There are also hidden buttons in the skin.

One of the build options in PicSkinner is to add a standard Windows Media Player title bar.

This 'Europe' relief map skin includes the title bar, and is shown here one quarter size.

Of course, you don't have to use pictures as backgrounds.

Here (half size) is a skin with an abstract graphics background which was made very quickly using Paintshop Pro's built-in shapes.

When you make your own skin like this you may need to pay a bit more attention to 'anti-aliasing' to prevent some of the jagged edges. But because it's so easy to build a skin with PicSkinner you can very quickly try out the graphic to see if it gives the results you're after.

Making small media player skins with PicSkinner is just as easy as making large ones!

This example is shown full size, again with buttons which are hidden until the mouse is put over them, or 'Show All' is clicked.

To add visuals and a playlist to a small skin the graphic needs to be put into a larger 'canvas' which can be made transparent.

This skin is shown here full size, with the visuals screen open.

PicSkinner will give you the basic skin in just a few minutes, and you can then indulge in a trick or two to make further changes.

This trick replaces the standard cover-up graphic in the skin file with another image which is the same size as the background image.

So you see one background in the WMP Preview panel (or when Quick Hide is activated) and another when the media player is playing (or Quick Hide is inactive).

The top picture on the right shows the skin in 'covered' mode; the lower picture shows the skin 'uncovered'. You can read how to do this on the FAQ page.

The pictures on the right are half size.
